Pubg ryzen benchmark

Following up on last month's CPU-focused benchmarkswe're back to see how PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds performs on a massive range of graphics cards. So far we know the game strongly favors Intel's hardware when it comes to CPU performance and only requires four cores if they are clocked at more than 4GHz.

Moving on from our last round of testing, we have an epic battle between Radeon and GeForce graphics cards. Before going any further, we should note that PUBG is an Nvidia supported title and during the game's early access phase it heavily favored hardware from the green team.

For whatever reason, AMD almost always gets the rough end of the stick when it comes to hugely popular titles -- actually, the reason is money, and Nvidia simply has more of it to throw at developers. Having seen how successful PUBG was early on, Nvidia climbed on board and before long we started to see the GeForce logo appear on the game's loading screen.

AMD has of course been optimizing its drivers for the game and we've seen numerous releases over the past few months that address performance, but you can rest assured that Nvidia has paid to win this one.

Most of the testing will be done using the ultra quality preset though we realize serious players will use lower quality settings and we'lI touch on those before the end of this article. The latest AMD and Nvidia display drivers available at the time of testing have been used and all graphics cards were tested on our standard GPU test rig. That's all the important stuff, so without wasting any more time let's get to the results because there's a boat load of them. Kicking things off, we have some real relics.

Can you believe some of these models are three years old now? For an average of around 60fps, gamers will require an R9 Fury or GTX graphics card from the previous generation. In terms of performance, the iK is almost unbeatable for desktop users and it has sufficient multi-core performance to handle all but the most demanding workstation tasks. For multimedia producers the Ryzen series offers great core performance at a very competitive price. Considering that the K is the fastest gaming processor available, and almost twice the price of the K, this is no small feat.

The iK is aimed squarely at gamers who are not willing to compromise on performance but don't want to pay more than they need to. Additionally, the 's memory controller, although significantly improved over previous Ryzen iterations, still has limited bandwidth and high latency which adversely impacts gaming.

Weaknesses in memory architecture are not readily picked up by CPU benchmarks but they are apparent whilst gaming. The masterfully hyped Ryzen may well be the best CPU for multimedia producers on a tight budget but in today's market there are faster and less expensive alternatives for gamers, streamers and general desktop users.

With a lower TDP the S requires a less demanding thermal solution and therefore runs a lot quieter.

Although the S promises to shake up, if not dominate, the value end of the GPU market, street prices are ultimately king. The range of cards sit in the sweet spot for many gamers because they offer superb p EFps in popular titles and they are relatively hassle free in terms of noise, compatibility and stability. All but the 2 TB version will also be available in M.

Consequently, the larger capacities are better able to sustain high sequential write speeds. Extended sustained write performance tests show that even though speed does drop off after the cache has been exhausted, it is still maintained at very respectable levels. This results in consistent performance even when the drive is nearly full. Samsung also have a great track record for reliability, this drive will likely last a lifetime. Since there is normally little price difference between the two models the version is the clear winner especially for use as a backup drive with its impressive sequential read and write speeds of nearly MBps.

See the current value leaders here. Larger capacity variants of this drive offer both better performance and better value for money. Save as guest. The Best.Following up on the mini-test we did for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds back in June, it was about time we checked where the game's performance is at after receiving countless updates, not to mention all the hardware releases along the way.

Since then, updates to the game claim to have addressed the game's poor optimization issues including a patch about four months back that improved CPU utilization by allowing the game to utilize six or more cores.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Graphics Performance Revisited: 44 GPUs Tested

That being the case, we thought it would be interesting to focus on CPU performance for this one. Today's testing involves all of the 8th-gen Intel Core series CPUs, all the Ryzen CPUs, and a few from the seventh-gen Core series, so we have test results for 16 different processors at p on very low, medium and ultra quality presets.

So, for example, the Core iK was tested with memory but the Core i used memory. For testing we walked through the town of Pochinki for 30 seconds, which is more than enough time to gather the data we need. The pass time was reduced from the normal 60 seconds to just 30 seconds to try and minimize the frequency at which we were killed before completing a pass as this is a high loot area, so high risk but high reward for those seeking good gear.

The test starts and ends at the exact same point every time and the results are based on an average of three runs.

Let's check them out…. First up we have the 'very low' quality results and visual quality settings are set to their lowest value, so this should remove the GTX Ti as the performance limiting component. That said, we are clearly seeing a GPU bottleneck with the majority of the 7th and 8th-gen Core processors. Previously, when testing with the ultra quality preset the K and R5 delivered the same performance.

Of course, with well over 60fps at all times the Ryzen CPUs still provided playable performance but in a game that claims to support high core count CPUs, the results are disappointing. This suggests that the game isn't really utilizing the higher core count CPUs well at all and instead prefers core frequency over core count. That said, for optimal performance a dual-core with HT isn't enough and we see this with the Pentium G which was considerably slower than any other CPU tested.

There is a little bit of reshuffling with the Ryzen CPUs and now those with more cores are doing better, at least when compared to what we saw previously. So the medium quality settings appear to place more load on the CPU though this wasn't apparent when monitoring CPU utilization as the overall usage figure was much the same. Finally we have the ultra quality preset results and here we see very little change from the medium quality results. For the most part a few frame are dropped though it's the Intel quad-cores that are the biggest losers here.

So far the results seem to be somewhat all over the place and that's something we often see with poorly optimized games. You can read more about the Ryzen APUs here. Though there has been improvements with recent patches, it still is quite a demanding game. For the system that we built right here, everything was chosen with getting the best budget and performance in mind. Here are the main parts that we chose for this build. For the rest of the system like the power supply, case, fans, and storage, we will leave it entirely up to you.

The choice of processor here is an obvious one since we have been talking about this since the beginning of this article. It has very good overclocking capability that will allow us to squeeze more performance for a better gaming experience. It has 4-dimm slots, two M. All of these will give you a lot of room for future upgrades.

The memory modules that we chose is the 2x4GB G. Skill Aegis mhz DDR4 memory CL15 since it is one of the cheapest dual channel memory kits available in the market. For the best performance with the Ryzen APU, we strongly recommend using dual channel memory. Even though that these are not Ryzen specific memory modules, they work just fine and they overclock very well since they use Hynix memory dies. We were able to overclock these modules up to mhz with the XMP profile.

Gaming performance-wise, there is a huge difference between mhz and mhz. You can also check out this video from Hardware Unboxed where they tested out different budget coolers for the Ryzen APU. There are a lot of choices out there that will fit your budget. Overclocking the memory is pretty simple. We want to do this because the Vega 8 GPU performs better with higher memory clock speeds.

To do this, make sure that the BIOS of your motherboard is updated to the latest stable version with better AGESA code that improves memory compatibility and overclocking. Then slowly raise the memory speeds from MHz up until you reach the maximum stable speed. We were able to reach up to MHz. We opted to use the Ryzen Master Software for overclocking since it is very user friendly and anyone can learn it easily.

Take note that the 2X4GB G. We therefore conclude that memory speed is very important when building a Ryzen APU based system. Also, getting the best cooling solution for your CPU is strongly advised since the Wraith Stealth alone will not handle temperatures very well, especially when you have both the CPU and GPU overclocked at the same time.

For stability issues, make sure that you keep the temperatures controlled, update your BIOS and drivers, and also use dual channel memory. Your email address will not be published. The newer generation sees a lithography reduction from 14nm to 12nm, but no increase in the number of cores and threads 6 and 12 respectively over the ground-breaking first generation which continues to surpass similarly priced Intel CPUs in terms of multi-core performance.

In other words, progress between generations is predominantly driven by power efficiency and therefore higher attainable clock speeds. The compliments the new series motherboards and is also backwards compatible with the series following a bios update.
